Well, I finally picked up this game. I love it, but I suck at it. So far I've only done "Fly Now" before getting into the campaign or anything. I'm getting better, but what do I do when an opponent gets behind me? The only thing I've figured out is to turn like mad and pray I can get him in my sights.
If you play Red Baron 1: This works at least for the German campaign in which you use the Fokker Eindecker which sucks at climbing and turning. You can trade altitude for turning speed so that you turn to a side and below. It's also very important to vary to engine power (key 1-9 or 1-0). The enemy might notice that delayed and will drift ahead of you. But don't go for 1 or you will stall, especially with the Eindecker. The manual also explains maneuvers for that.
"Fly Now" is a good way to see what a plane is capable of doing, testing its limits. But give multiplayer a try, use your view keys to watch others fight and learn. And don't run... being shot down, which may be many and many times over again, will only make you learn faster. I've been there :) Plus the other flyers will help, if you have a question.
