So I'm trying to use my custom paint schemes online but I need to save a .cfg file. Now as far as I've researched I notice that after you save a custome scheme in the paint shop in the campaign mode it should automatically save a .cfg file in the paint folder. Whenever I save the plane the file never shows up in the folder or anywhere on my computer. I've searched and I've also unhid hidden files. I'm able to load the saved paint scheme in the game but I can't find in my computer. This same thing happens whenever I try to export a part to the paint folder. It doesn't show up anywhere. Anyone know how to fix this?

One the cfg file should save to the Paint folder in the game. (But you already mention that is the folder it belongs too)

Two, keep the file's name to eight characters or less. (But the game won't let you create a longer name in Paint Shop.)

Maybe run the game as administrator so it can be allowed to create/save files? (Either right click and select 'Run as Administrator' or go to properties and set it up under compatibility to run as administrator.)
Hey thanks Wailwulf! Running as the administator fixed the situation.

While we're on the subject :) : I've managed to add my design to planes but not onto the in-game squadron schemes, ie, I had to backfill a white plane (well, a sky blue plane with my added ace marking is, well, different). Do I have to dig around in that god awful long file to find a particular piece of the plane, export it, add the additional markings, then import to the game files?
Technicly, no you don't, but if you want your plane to look like a plane then yes, or you can got to Flybert's Chateau at http://www.flybert.net/warpaint.htm and http://www.flybert.net/mpdefalt.htm, download the paint schemes there (The MP_V35 files on the first web page and the Western Front Defaults on the second page). It will give you a massive amount of paint schemes to either use or modify.

The paints I did for my squadron (1st Aerial Battalion, or AB1) I used a basic set of generic paints for the allies, but pulled parts, pieces and more from other paint schemes and then did modifications. Every paint scheme I have done, be it for MP or SP has never been from scratch, but based in some part on other's works.
