These games make up some of the best WWI areal combat you will find anywhere. This is especially true of Red Baron 3D, which has one of the best dynamic campaign generators of any flight sim ever made, in my humble opinion. I own physical copies of these, but I'm going to buy them here from GoG not only to support the site, but to get working copies of them as well.
If you're looking for detailed, fun, exciting and dynamic WWI areal combat, you can barely do better than the Red Baron series. Now all GoG needs to do is add Flying Corps Gold. ^_~
I agree the dynamic campaign system for Red Baron 3D really makes it quite unique. I've been playing Red Baron since Red Baron II, even the bugged monster known as Red Baron II was always such a joy to play. Despite what game generation it is, Red Baron 3D has always, and will always be installed on my computer, I just can not help but go back and play it after week or so for at least a few missions for nearly the end of time.

Do you know if the upgrade patches apply to this version of RB ?? (graphic, aircraft patches etc)

Red Baron II and Red Baron 3D are existentially the same game. If you have RBII, you just need to get the Superpatch and then add the 1078 patch to get RB3d which you can get from here: http://www.wings-of-valor.net/files/files_patches.htm install Red Baron "Super Patch" rb3d_spr.exe first, then install Red Baron 3D Upgrade rb3d1078.exe to make RBII=RB3D
By Upgrading you can use Glide graphics through a wrapper (or a VooDoo Card) for some excellent eye candy, and with the right configuration in your mplayer.ini file, be able to fly online with others. The downside is the troops charging across NML cease to exist in SP :(
Thank you WailWulf !
I used to play this game back in 1999, online with 70+ other guys !
I downloaded rb3d today from Gog and it's patched with 1078. I also got a glide emulator and things work fine ... I hope I ll find free time to search for aircraft patches the upcoming days and of course, I can't wait to play online again ;)

One thing I do have to say about Red Barron(I haven't played 3D yet :P) is that its just beautiful.

Once you get a plane that can actually maneuver well, this game is a thing of beauty...
