I really like to kn ow this. I would like to set a few turrets to kill fighters and missiles but they keep firing at the cap-ships instead.

So what setting do I use to make them do that?

While you are at it what are the other settings for?

When you press escape (default) you should see across the top numerous tabs. The one you want I'm pretty sure is called Tactical. When you select it, you should see on the left the numerous turrets and weapons. Select one, for instance - Beta Turret, and then you should see a radial dial in the middle where there's a few options you can select for that turret's behavior. There you'll find 'target only fighters'; 'target capital ships'; target any ship'; target only locked target' and so on.

OK thanks that worked. Now one more question does setting it to target only fighters allow them engage missiles as well?

I'd like to know this as well; Maybe I'll test it today.

I had been using attack any, but then I went to a mission and the ai didn't notice that a friendly was blocking the enemy ship and just kept shooting it till everything friendly turned hostile! :-(
Now I use attack targetted on everything!

Cannot change turret AI, after Mu Turret, on Dreadnaughts. They do not appear, as choices in scroll menu, on lefthand menu, within the tactical tab.

It's worth noting, that AI-turrets NEVER target ordonance (hence, missiles, torpedoes, mines.) To shoot them, you need the "ordonance targeting"-submodule. You only can shoot them manually and only in precise-targetting (hence, holding the right mouse-button, while you have selected your turret.) The turret you control in that manner is selected randomly, if you have more than one. (At least this seems the case to me. Perhaps it'll prefer front- and/or middle-placed turrets, though.)

The difference between "locked target" and "target" is just that. You target automatically every enemy in the center of your view. (the targets can change relative quickly). But you also can "lock" a target. You won't loose this, if you do that. I like to set Missiles to "locked only" and lock to fire that missile, then unlock again. Also worth noting is, that a locked target will be prefered, if you fire missiles manually. (only turrets.) Even, if you lock the missile on another target.

But I also have a question: has the "manual"-setting of your mercenary any function? I didn't try this setting, since it seems useless to me. Or is there a way to control the mercenary yourself? ^^
