Having spent about an hour tweaking settings to get this game to run as best as possible on my 2008-era computer I've found that the D3D9 renderer appears to be the fastest. Unfortunately all the pre-rendered videos such as the intro and the tutorial screens are messed up. Imagine a broken video codec that leaves everything as a flickering interlaced mess that covers the top 2/3 of the screen with the bottom rest being all black.
Video playback works really well with OpenGL while under D3D11 it seems to be straining with low and inconsistent FPS. Under D3D9 however it seems to be broken no matter what other settings I use, fullscreen or not.
If I can't figure out how to fix this I guess OpenGL is good enough, but I'm throwing the topic out here in the hopes of learning what causes it.
I'm using a GeForce 9800+ with up to date drivers on Vista 64-bit (don't laugh, vista has been fine since 2009 after disabling UAC etc).
