A comment in another thread mentioned a time limit for completing BoD. Is this true? I'm finding the game to be really tough and the game world seems huge. If I can't methodically visit each city and slowly level up, I think I'm screwed. Thanks.
I hope this isn't the case. I hate time limits in games in general, but it seems particularly annoying in an RPG. For that reason, I do find it unlikely that there is a time limit, but I'll wait for someone who's actually completed the game to say.

Yeah the idea of a time limit never stopped bugging me as i played BoD. One of final main story quests has you find a document that gives a date for the planned invasion.

Unfortunately i cannot recall how long exactly but i had spent enough time in the game world to beat most of the dungeons (i stayed away from spider cave) and i had more than a year (i think) to reach the rendevous although i picked the option to head there immediately. It may be two years of game time from the start. Sorry i can't be more precise.

BoA (Die Schicksalsklinge) has a time limit for an invasion, BUT don't let this spoil your free roaming adventures. In my memory, robobrien is right, you have more than a year to recover the Blade of Destiny.

While this gives you a sense of urgency in this game, you will have more than enough time to freely explore the map and its cities/dungeons. Don't panic!
You can test the time limit by resting at an inn until the invasion starts.

Thanks for the info guys.
You will have plenty of time finding the map-pieces. The Invasion will happen after 2 years and 10 month (27. Peraine 17 Hal ingame date).

Seeing this "ending" was so rare, that it was somewhat of an easter egg in the german community, when the game was published.I have played through this game a couple of times, I never even came close to the time limit.

Endless leving up is not possible anyway. Grinding is strongly duscuraged by gameplay. And the highest level is level 8. But don't feel discouraged, the game might be tough, but it is far from beeing unbeatable an it's worth it!

Edit: Oh, my spelling ...
