GOG has recently updated the Windows installer for this game but voices don't work due to an incorrect IRQ setting.

I've contacted GOG support with the details; here's how to fix it yourself in the meantime:

1. Go to the installation folder; by default this is C:\GOG Games\Realms of Arkania Pack\Realms of Arkania 2
2. Edit dosbox_realms2.conf
3. Change irq=7 to irq=5
4. Save your changes.
5. Voices will now work correctly in-game.
Thanks for taking the time to post the fix

Awsome!
It helped, thanks.

I've noticed that in many early games the odd fact that they are often hard-coded to use certain IRQ/DMA resources for sound--even though the configuration programs that shipped with them seemingly allow for a wide latitude of configuration options. So with those games if you don't get the resources configured exactly right then either some sounds won't be heard at all and sometimes the game won't even run.
