Before launching RoA I gave the soundtrack a listen and was pretty impressed with it. Played the game and the MIDI girble garble ruined my ears. Is there a way to change the sound quality that of the CD quality? I'd hate have to play the game without sound, but there's no alternative. I'm using a head set and the MIDI music in this game really hurts my ears so it's either better quality or nothing at all.
I agree, I was thinking about buying RoA 1 and 2 here, my CDs from back then are in a horrible shape, but not having the CD music in-game kills the deal for me.
I've googled around and someone said on the internet that he played ROA 1 with the soundtrack by mounting a mixed mode ISO, but he didn't explain how it was done. Can anyone with more experience with Dosbox try that?

I can play the game fine with the midis (mainly because I haven't heard the CD soundtrack yet, I suppose), but I'd love the better musics.
Apparently, the old installer for these games have the music. The new installers do not. This is a huge eff up on GoG's end, but this game is not a priority for them to fix the licensing issues on it.

Then maybe the next time I wish to spend money on a game I'll give priority to another dd service.

It's as you said, as coala has written here YEARS ago: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/realms_of_arkania_series/roa_1_and_2_not_as_cd_versions

Let's hope someone at gog reads this and hopefully has new info on the matter.

It is a licensing issue. GOG can't put the music into the installers. The same reason there isn't a full soundtrack for RoA 1 + 2.

You should be glad that GOG doesn't run any client like Steam, so that people that were luckily enough to get the old version can still enjoy the music ...
Simon I know it is a licensing issue but it's not impossible to overcome, isn't it?
Let's try to let the GOG team know how much we care about having the best release possible, or they'll never care. :)

Wow, how dare you said they never care? They have update the installer to the newest version to avoid getting sued or any legal problem. This is the best they can do at the moment. Try make a business yourself and you'll know sometime you couldn't do anything to challenge the legal problem.

They have hundreds of game in their catalogue, and relatively small company right now. Do you really know how much they need to pay for the copyright music? If you don't really know, you're in no position to question them.

It is not as simple as that, it is not always about the money when it come to copyrights. If have encountered or research more about copyright and legal issue you'll know. There are lots of detail that we outsider not aware of.
