I've just finished RoA1, played flawlessly, no glitches, crashes or whatever, and the only thing I had to deal with was the vile, demonic inventory system. RoA 2, however, and as I've since discovered, RoA 3, suffer from severe crashitis. When I first ran RoA2, it crashed almost immediately, with a standard "send / no send" Microsoft message, so I checked here, and someone suggested inserting "sound" before the "star" entry in the conf file, and chose Roland MIDI for music, and SB Pro for digi sound. So far so good, but now, whenever I select "create character" or "leave temple", or anything else that requires the game to reinitialise, I get the same crash.

Like I said, the same thing happens with RoA3, at least where opening the game for the first time via the shortie is concerned. I really don't want to be asking GoG for a refund, but I'd have thought the games would have been thoroughly checked by now. It's not like I have an incapable, unusual or un-looked-after system, even if its core tech is a couple of years old now.

System :

Core2Quad 2.66Ghz
4GB DDR2
Sapphire ATi 4870 with latest drivers
Win XP Pro XP3 + updates.

I have no other fatal crashes with any other game or DOSbox game other than these two.

HELP!

:-)

Kurgen: [...]
Did you try different graphic modes? Or running the game windowed?
I tried windowed, and at least saw an intro screen, but no change... still get the crash. Also, I can no longer run RoA1, since uninstalling and reinstalling DOSbox. This is most annoying.

I'll probably try uninstalling DOSbox again, and gutting out any reference to it in the reg, and do the same with the game(s) later tonight when I get home.

Dosbox has no references in the reg that it uses when running. It has one reference and that is the uninstaller.
That explains why I couldn't find anything then... :-)
