The only reason I ended up checking on Virustotal is because Defender decided to pop up that it was a PUP. A lot of vendors are picking it up as a threat, and it looks like this stems all the way back to 2011 with posts about it. Please do something about this, distributing an infected exe for this long is not good at all.

It's probably nothing more than the remnants of something like SecuRom or one of the other harebrained DRM schemes that Ubisoft saw fit to press files with back then.
