I bought Rayman 2: The Great Escape entirely for the nostalgia reasons, but none of the dialogue that I love and remember is actually in the game except in subtitles. I changed the in-game language to English but presumably that only affects the subs, and I can't actually understand what any of the NPCs are saying.

I know there were a few discrepancies between the Playstation and PC versions, was the omission of English voice acting one of the changes? Is there any way at all that I can bring back the dialogue and relive my childhood? Thank you in advance!

I noticed that too, only installed it a couple of days ago. I played it in German originally, on a PlayStation. I have to say, the lack of voices completely destroys the immersion and nostalgia. :/

It's not really the omission, as PC version was released before Playstation version, but yes it never had real language

Are there any mods that add the Playstation voices to the game? Or are the two versions too different (I noticed the mosquito guy from the original Rayman right off the bat as a sprite)

Not that I know of.

They are indeed. The playstation version has only 80% of the content of the N64/PC/DC version. Levels are shortened and some are missing entirely.

For myself I like the gibberish. It's cute and fits to the Rayman universe. But then again the N64 version was my first so I have known Rayman for many years just with that gibberish language that I love so much :)

Gibbertish talk does not fit any game and I'm very glad it died out. It should not have existed in the first place. It was bad when all 3D Mario games do it, it's bad when Sonic does it in the Adventure Fields of 2006 and World Adventure, it was bad in Banjo Kazooie, it was bad in Lego Racers 2, the Sims, Pokemon, Zelda, Yooka Laylee and Blinx 1 and it's bad in Rayman 2 as well. (Any examples I've missed are also counted)

If you are going to make your characters talk and you aren't using a 1 byte or 2 byte processor and a cartridge and/or floppy disk as the storage media, then hire fucking voice actors, don't be a cheapskate and make them all communicate by blowing raspberries. That's cheating and just plain retarded.

The PlayStation 1 and 2 (Rayman Revolution) versions are the only ones that feature a voice cast. All others have the gibberish language.

Good thing I have Revolution emulated as well as this game. :) A proper voice acting mod that adds the English voices from Revolution is a good idea for a fan patch at least. Then I can enjoy the game a little better than I already do, without listening to the same semi-French sounding lines about how Rayman "cannot brew stew" and asking people to call his name.
