I run the game, it disables desktop composition, and desktop goes into what looks like 640x480 resolution, sometimes the music plays, but the game won't start. Any ideas?

I have the same problem in windows 7 professional, change the resolution and the music is heard, but the image is not displayed, compatibility mode does not work, However on a virtual machine with XP works well, perhaps it is an incompatible graphics card? , I have a Raedon HD 5700.

Also i have on Steam and it come some files to boot in safe mode, if copied in the game directory is executed and then run the game the game works.

Files are:

Launch RT3 In Normal Mode, Reset Defaullts.bat
Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Full Screen, No Sound.bat
Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Full Screen.bat
Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Windowed, not Sound.bat
Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Windowed.bat

If I run "Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Full Screen.bat" and then run the game, it works.

Is there any way to choose a higher resolution like 1024x768?

I can not post the link, but it seems that by modifying the file engine.cfg could be done, I do not know if it works.

Could you paste those .bat files to this forum? I can't get the game to work in Win7 either.

Here's the list of those .bat files followed by the text they contain. Use Notepad to make your own .bat files, or you could make shortcuts for the modes you want. To make a shortcut like this, make a normal shortcut, right-click for it's Properties, then add to the end of the Target line after the final quotation mark. Example for Target line: "C:\GOG games\Railroad Tycoon 3\RT3.exe" -s1

Launch RT3 In Normal Mode, Reset Defaults.bat

RT3.exe -s9

Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Full Screen, No Sound.bat

RT3.exe -s3

Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Full Screen.bat

RT3.exe -s1

Launch RT3 In 'Safe Mode', Windowed, No Sound.bat

RT3.exe -s4

So the "s" is for safe mode and the numbers are different parameters? Do you know if there is a complete list of all of the parameters?

Sorry. That's all I know. Those are the only ones that come with the disk version of the game. I really hope you get your game working.

I think ne found another way to make it work.

You have to download the "DirectDraw_Compatibility_Tool.exe" and find the exe of the game, run the program and after run the game.

I have to try more but seems work, Luck

i bought the game from GOG but realised it later that it was meant for windows only.
i then tried to download porting kit to make it run on mac but the app store doesnt open the porting kit.
just want to play this game..any suggestions plz..

Get Boot Camp or make a Windows virtual machine. Or Windows in general :P
