I've managed to get this game to run successfully in both WINE (Wineskin) and in CrossOver (CX 13.10) on my Mac (2010 MBA, 1.4 Ghz C2D, 10.9.5). In general, the game runs quite well and is perfectly playable, but I have run into the game intermittently slowing down when the background gets complex, and there a lot of enemies on the screen. I've seen similar comments mention this on the Steam forums. It doesn't significantly impact gameplay (IMO, but YMMV), but it is noticeable. It's probably because I'm running this on an underspecced machine.
For Wineskin, I found that the best engine to run it was WS9Wine1.5.31X (which mitigated most of the speed issues). I also had UseGLSL=disable in my Wine registry settings.
For CrossOver, disabling the Native Mac Driver and enabling the Direct3D boost didn't seem to have much of an effect.
