I don't know if I have the EGA or VGA version, or how to tell which I have, or if it matters. I got them off GOG, if that helps. Anyway, I have a serious money issue in QFG 1. I played this game alot when I was a kid, but I don't remember if it was a problem in the original pile o' floppies version. But, when I buy, say a vigor potion for 20 silvers, it takes 20 silvers out....IF I have silvers. (It is 100 silvers = 1g, right?) If I have only gold, or not enough silvers but plenty of gold, it starts taking huge chunks of gold. And it seems random. Assuming silvers are insufficient, a vigor potion, or healing pot, or what have you will cost me a gold, or 2 gold or 3 gold or more. I've had this problem with every single character I've made in QFG 1 since getting the GOG version.
Basically, can vendors not make change, or what is going on???
Does anyone else have this issue?

No, it's 10 silvers to 1 gold.

All the later games (except QFG5, which eliminates differing denominations altogether) use a 100:1 ratio, but QFG1 uses a 10:1 ratio.

I haven't noticed any issue with merchants making change in the GoG version.

If you type commands, it's the EGA version. If you use icons, it's the VGA version. GOG's pack includes both versions, but I think it creates desktop shortcut for one of them only. The other can be found through the start menu.
Alternatively, is the EGA and [url=http://img.gamefaqs.net/screens/1/0/0/gfs_36744_2_2.jpg]this is the VGA version.

As for the money thing, Darvin covered it.
