Hello everyone,

The videos in my install of QFG 5 are not displaying video, despite sound playing and no errors. I've tried re-installing and repairing the game with no success. What else can I do to try and fix this? The game itself runs flawlessly otherwise.

Running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I've dusted off and, with much pain, managed to install QFG5 from my old original discs, and the video works there (though that version won't get passed the New Game screen due to the 16-bit color bug, of course). I've also tried to disable SLI mode, also with no success, checked for updates from NVIDIA, and restarted my machine. I can post other specs/settings if it would help,

Any help is appreciated: I'm actually showing this series to a friend of mine who's never played before, and I'm at my WIT's end!

Oh, and before anyone says it: yes, I tried looking in the forum before posting this, and all I found were people asking about the same issue and others responding with something like "it's a known problem, go look up old posts" or "I did some black magic that I don't remember and now it's fixed, so never mind" - none of the posts I've seen have an actual solution shown. Google at large has shown nothing after 2 hours of searching, too.

Check the Sierra Help site: http://sierrahelp.com/Games/QuestForGlory/QfG5Help.html#GameBugs

Sounds like you need to update QuickTime. I believe I went through the same thing when I tried to install and play from my CD, but that was some time ago so I don't recall for certain.

I'm working on a memory from like 15 years ago when I worked on this problem, but I remember that you needed to have a particular version of Quicktime (like QT3, or something). QT2 or QT4 didn't work right with the game, which caused the error you're describing. (Version numbers may be incorrect.)

Codefenix is likely right. QFG5 didn't age well because of the use of Quicktime for it's cutscenes. The current GOG version works around it using the patch from the Sierra Collection. The Collector, who runs that site, did the installers and settings for the GOG version, so if there is an answer and it is the Quicktime issue then the answer is there.

Thank you guys so much for your assistance! I got the videos to display properly by completely uninstalling my Quicktime (updating to latest did nothing) and installing Quicktime Alternative 3.2. After restarting my machine, the videos displayed as intended, and everything's set for my friend to try the game out. Can't wait, especially since he's said he wants to use the series as possible inspiration for his next game!
