I was ecstatic when I loaded up QFG5 and realized the early issues that I'd had years ago when I'd tried to play this game--cutscenes not loading properly, crashing on the introduction scene--didn't happen this time around. The cutscenes showed up perfectly fine for me.

But then I got to the title screen and couldn't read the buttons. They'd clear up briefly if I passed the mouse cursor over them, but they'd quickly blur again. I clicked the first button to go to the character creation, and got blurry and flickering text. Just wondering if the regular game was blurry, I didn't bother distributing any points and just clicked the bottom right button to continue on. The pop-up text box was actually clear. The regular game was mostly clear, too, except for the panel at the bottom. My inventory and character screen, however, were not.

In town, when I read the Welcome to Silmaria board, it was clear unless I hovered the mouse cursor over one of the notes long enough for a pop-up box to appear. (Would have included screenshots of these, but apparently, 5's the limit.)

I tried changing my monitor's resolution; toggling Run in 640x480 screen resolution, Disable Visual themes, and Disable display scaling on high DPI settings in QFG5.exe's properties; alt-tabbing out; changing the compatibility mode to 98 (default was 95, and both had the same issues); reinstalling; and updating my graphics card. Nothing worked. So I right clicked on QFG5.exe and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility, and tested what was suggested (XP then 95), and got a "Config file is missing. QFG5.cfg" error both times, although that file does exist (though, all it has are a period on the first line and an arrow pointing right on the second.)

I'm not really sure what else to try. :/

Edit: Odd, I attached 5 screenshots, but I only see one showing. Let's try that again . . .

Do you have ATI card? If so, go to Catalyst settings and see if Morphological Filtering / other anti-aliasing is enabled - turn it off and see if that helps.

I am experiencing the same issue.

Have you come up with any kind of solution?

I'd imagine this is a hardware compatibility issue, as evidently not everyone is experiencing it.
What are you system stats?

I'm running

Windows 7 64bit
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 5870
Processor - Intel i7 930
Motherboard - ASUS ROG Striker II Extreme
Ram - 12 GBs DDR2 Corsair

perhaps this is an issue only encountered by ATI graphics cards?

I would be greatly appreciative if anyone can come up with a solution to this issue, as I've just done an import play through on a Paladin from 1 to 4 completing Shadows Of Darkness with 0 Bug hindrance, which is amazing, I would always crash at the mad monks tomb.

Anyways good luck with finding a solution to the problem, I'll let you know if I can solve it.

Cheers
Having an ATI card and morphological filtering enabled in the Catalyst Control Center settings is the usual cause of this problem (and not just with QFG5). It either needs to be turned off in the general settings or a QFG5 profile created with it disabled.
