I have run into the Erana's face freeze bug in the dream in QFG4. The first time I saw the dream it worked fine, but every time since then the game has frozen. Ashlancer's patch does not fix this, and I have confirmed that the bug existed in the original CD version. I have tried sleeping in both places you can get the dream but have gotten the bug every time. This has kind of brought my game to a crashing halt since I consider those dreams to be a very important part of a QFG4 playthrough. Does anyone know of any way to get around this bug?

Does it fully crash with a blue screen and exit out of the game, or does it just pause and wait for input?

I recall the first time I encountered this, I just hit "Enter," like, 10x and eventually I got through the scene.

It happens as follows:

The dream first plays out as normal, with the narration. Then, after it says you see the face of Erana, the screen dissolves like it's supposed to, but instead of showing the face of Erana, it dissolves into a completely black screen and just stays frozen there. I've had to use the task manager to exit the game (so, no, it is not the blue screen you're thinking of and the game is still running).

Just to be clear: I'm playing the version of GOG, which is the CD version, and using Ashlancer's patch.

Do you know a way around this?

All I can recommend is to use ScummVM instead. Porting the SCI to modern platforms provides several benefits over emulating the original SCI. The only downside is that the saves aren't cross-compatible. (The export files are though!)
I used to get this one. I recall a possible workaround is to sleep somewhere else for one night (like the inn) and then return to the garden for the final dream. My memory may be imperfect on this, but I believe it solved the freeze for me.
