Freelancer117: Thanks for making this available, does it show anywhere that patch 1,2a is installed ?
I still get the 1.1 number next to the play button, on the GOG galaxy client.

Again, thank you for your time!
Apologies for the late reply! ><

You should be able to see the version number displayed inside of the game when you click on the About section (Sierra logo). Hope this was of some help =)

Small update, guys.

To any of you suffering from that very rare, decades-old bug where Salim would forget that you gave him the ingredients for making the dispel potion: this is now solved!

Apparently the programmer used a faulty variable system that was prone to being altered by other scripts in the game. I replaced it with a set of reliable global flags that were already reserved for this event, but not being used.

The fix is live and retroactive. If you load an old save file where Salim was previously borked, he should take your ingredients now.
I just found out about this. This is incredible, very well done :) Always good to hear about something new for my favorite series.

reddvii: Looking for a mod to sticky this please!!

NEW: UPDATED TO 1.3!!!
Hello,

I'm one of the developers of the SCI engine inside ScummVM.
Would you be willing to give us details about all these bugs, so that we can easily put fixes for them inside our script patch engine?

That way all these bugs will get fixed at runtime (if they weren't already fixed), and our script patcher engine also applies these patches dynamically, so translated versions of QfG3 will also get fixed.

It seems I can't contact you here privately, and also didn't find a way to contact you on github.
Please write me an e-mail, m underline kiewitz AT scummvm dot org.

Thank you very much for your work in any case.

NEW: UPDATED TO 1.3!!!
Hi reddvii.
Wow!!! Amazing patch. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I have played through QfG3 with a Thief, Wizard, and Paladin imports and can confirm that you can get 500/500 puzzle points with this patch.

I did discover two things:
1) It looks like the "Change Directory" feature when importing is broken (Play Game -> Import Character -> Change Directory). I try to point the directory to my import folder but it just takes me back to the main game files folder. Not a big deal here since I can just drop my import save there.
2) It looks like I can only get 499/500 puzzle points as a fighter (this was with both picking up the rope bridge in monkey village and making the vine bridge at the waterfall). Not sure where the remaining 1 point is.

I'm going to replay the fighter again and check off the puzzle points manually just in case I missed something somewhere...

Update -- After replaying as a pure fighter again, I was able to get the maximum points!!! It looks like pure fighters can reach a maximum of 501 puzzle points so previously I was actually missing 2 points (unless my game glitched out somehow...). On this replay, a weird thing happened. Despite throwing rocks at the guardian to disqualify myself as a paladin, I was still able to somehow become one (had to use Cheat Engine to lower my honor below 100 in order to avoid it). Mysteriously, this did not happen in my first playthrough.

This is really nice, thank you.
I recently finished playing QFG3 as a fighter with the 1.3A patch. I only got 498 out of 500 points. I have never been able to find a full points list on any of the classes. I noticed that when I was playing my fighter game, I never received points for telling Uhura about the initiation or asking Uhura about wife after marrying Johari. Any help would be appreciated.
Amazing patch, thank you!

Can anyone walk me through how the magic-stripping bit works for a Paladin export? I imported my Paladin into QG4 and, although having had access to the Heal "spell" (and no other spells), no longer had the Heal ability when starting Shadows of Darkness. I guess this makes sense as magic was set to 0.

Anyway, since I evidently need to re-learn the heal ability, what's the benefit/point of removing magic on export? When I got enough honor to access this ability again, I suddenly had access to every spell possible through the series thus far, all set to 300 skill. I tested this by spamming flowers on the Rusalka.

On a related note, is there a way to get rid of these spells and just leave Heal?

Edit: on the latter bit, I tinkered around with the QFGImporter tool that's floating around. When I opened my QG3 Paladin SAV file, it warned me that there was a potential issue due to an overflow or something, which seemed to be related to the file's "experience" value. I used the "fix it" button which set this lower and that seems to have resolved the issue. Importing without magic, but then re-gaining it through honor now correctly only grants Heal. I'm also able to import with 1 or 5 points in Magic (using the tool to set the stat) and only have access to Heal.

I'm still not sure what the point of not exporting with the 5 points in Magic is, since having points in Magic is required to use Heal, but hey. I figure I'll run through and temporarily set Magic to 0 via CheatEngine when relevant (e.g., to get the amulet/talisman instead of the Aura spell, etc. -- I'm actually not sure if there are any other instances where having Magic would treat the Paladin like a Wizard, but we'll see!)...

Interesting... I've played through as a Fighter twice now and can only come up with 493 points! I'm not sure what the missing points are, very frustrating... I've gotten 500 on every other class, including Paladin, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

If I remember correctly, some classes were originally unable to achieve the full 500 points, and their max score was 49+. I created a points list by combining several different lists & tested most of them to verify on the wizard. One thing to note is that you get more points depending on how you solve a puzzle. For instance, when the thief tries to rob the money changer, the wizard can: A- Attempt to stop him with magic & fail (4 pt), B- push the basket of fruit in his way as he flees (5 pt), C- successfully use magic to stop Harami (7 pt), or D- just chase him down (8 pt). The first three options are all illegal in the city of Tarna, and do not reward as many puzzle points as just chasing him down. There are several puzzles, all class-specific IIRC, that give you points depending on how you solved it; obviously, the most points are awarded for the best outcome.

PS - If you do something that violates the laws of Tarna, you might not get caught, but you WILL lose honor. Was using my hotel room to practice a new spell & realized my honor was dropping like a rock. Didn't really care, because I wasn't planning on playing a pally, but just a nifty FYI I discovered...

Happy Gaming, all!
I believe the missing points for my fighter was either picking up the rope bridge or making the vine rope. When I did both I was able to get the maximum score. I got the max score for my wizard and thief. I just started my paladin.

So I *just* started replaying through QFG1-5 a week ago trying to play as "pure" characters (no learning magic for a Fighter), and today I got to QFG3 with my Paladin. I earned some Honor and BAM...I have Magic!!!

I was so upset I started searching forums about this issue, and I found your patch. Yay!

So I downloaded it off of GitHub, but the file QFG3 Update 1.3.1A.zip has two folders: a "PATCH" folder and a "NRS and Anthology Fixes" folder. It also seems like the "NRS and Anthology Fixes" folder has files that are located in the "PATCH" folder.

I am confused about how to properly install...=/

Also...is it now safe to play this on ScummVM? I read in the Readme that there were some bugs that occurred with playing this version on ScummVM. Have those been fixed since version 1.3.1A came out, or is it safer to play this in DOSBox than it is to play this on ScummVM?

The NRS and Anthology fixes are mostly just in case your install doesn't have them (such as, you bought QFG3 before the GOG release)

If there are identical looking files in the normal Patches folder, those are meant to overwrite anything you'd extract from the NRS/Anthology fixes thing.

However, if you have the GOG version, then you don't need to bother with the NRS/Anthology stuff, as that's been pre-included in the GOG version.

Just extract the stuff from the Patches folder into the QFG3 folder, and let it overwrite.

As for the issue with ScummVM, sadly I don't know, I'm guessing they haven't been fixed, so DOSbox may be best for a patched 3. Of course, it may have also been fixed on ScummVM's end for all I know.
I see, thanks! I tried playing it with the latest version of ScummVM, and it appears as though they fixed the day/night thing. I didn't see any other bugs, but I was able to complete the game without any errors. Looks good now!

Oh shoot, well, that got me up to 498, so it's closer but still not 500! This is driving me nuts! I've got 500 for Wizard, Thief, and Paladin, but can't figure out these missing Fighter points!

It's too bad OP seems to be MIA, as this is really an incredible piece of work.
