I am trying to import a character from the AGD Interactive remake of QFG2 to QFG3 being played with ScummVM, but the moment I click import character in 3 it asks for the disk and then crashes.
If I don't use ScummVM it works fine, but I would prefer to play it with ScummVM to get access to the windowed mode and other refinements.

Try manually copying the *.sav file from QFG2 into your ScummVM saved games directory before your start QFG3, so that you don't need to select the disc that the *.sav file is in after you've started QFG3.

On my computer, the directory is in <User>/AppData/Roaming/ScummVM/Saved Games

You can also navigate to it via the Start Menu

That unfortunately did not work, the game still crashes after the disk drive message.

Hmm, sounds like a more serious ScummVM-specific crash then. You'll need to do some more specific error-checking.

Here's a few questions that may lead you in the right direction.

(1) What are the series of steps that are taken to cause the crash? I'm attaching 4 screenshots in links down below. Is it after screenshot 1, screenshot 2, screenshot 3, or screenshot 4? From your initial message, it sounds like you reach screenshot 2, then click the screen, and then the game crashes. Is that correct? Or does it crash after you click "OK" on screenshot 3?

(2) What does your ScummVM log file say? On my computer, it's saved in <User>/AppData/Roaming/ScummVM/Logs. Can you paste your log file either here or in the ScummVM forums? The log may hopefully have an message that indicates why ScummVM is crashing. (read more about it here: https://docs.scummvm.org/en/latest/help/report_bugs.html#logfile)

(3) Have you tried playing with the graphics settings? I feel like I see these kinds of crashes the most often when there is an improper instruction to a graphics card, which can be fixed by fiddling with the graphics settings (Game Options) in ScummVM a bit

(4) Have you tried downloading the latest daily build of ScummVM and running it? It's possible that this issue is already fixed in a more recent build. They rebuild the code pretty much every day. (here is where you can find the daily builds: https://www.scummvm.org/downloads/#daily)

1. It crashes at Screenshot 2, after clicking or after being left alone for a bit the cursor turns into the scarab and it crashes about a second afterward.

2. It says:
[2022-09-22 11:41:02] ScummVM 2.6.0 (Jul 17 2022 00:04:49)
[2022-09-22 11:41:02] Vorbis FLAC MP3 RGB zLib MPEG2 FluidSynth Theora AAC A/52 FreeType2 FriBiDi JPEG PNG GIF taskbar TTS cloud (servers, local) TinyGL OpenGL (with shaders)
[2022-09-22 11:41:02] --- Log opened.

3. I have them all set to default, I'll go ahead and tinker with them a bit.

4. I made sure beforehand and I do indeed have the most recent version of ScummVM

Something I should add: the character importing worked perfectly fine with an older version of ScummVM, it was after upgrading to the most recent version that the problem started happening.

OK, here is what my log says when I installed version 2.6.0 in my computer:

So it looks like your game crashes when it tries to run your game. I wonder if there is some file corruption in either your game or ScummVM. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling QFG3?

It also looks like you're running the latest official version of ScummVM, and not the unofficial Daily Build of version 2.7.0. Maybe try the daily build and see what happens?

At any rate, you may have reached the end of getting support on GOG if those things don't work. You may have better luck posting in the ScummVM forums and seeing if some of the developers there can figure out why you're not getting to the "Running Quest for Glory III: Wages of War (DOS/English)" line

There was indeed some file corruption I think, I went over and reinstalled the game and deleted all old save files. It no longer crashes when trying to import! A new problem has arisen that it can't seem to find my QFG2 character file, but that should not be hard to fix. Thank you very much for your help.

Great to hear! Congrats! Also, I believe there are some free QFG character creators out there on the web if you want to recreate your hero with all of its stats as you ended QFG2.

...enjoy!
