At the beginning of the game, and for the first few days thereafter, the only monsters you encounter in the woods during the day are goblins, brigands, and saurus.

At some point, however, you can also encounter mantarays, cheetaurs, and saurus rex in the woods during the day.

So what is the point at which the stronger monsters start wandering the woods during the day? Is it after the hero has achieved a certain skill level, or after a certain day, or after he's ventured through the woods at night?

On my last playthrough, the stronger monsters started showing up on day 7, after I had gone into the woods at night on day 6.
I played the VGA version and they show up when my experience hit 1000.
Exactly. I seems like it's tied to how much experiene you have, and 1000 seems to be the trigger.
True, at 1000 experience Night monsters start appearing during the day and Trolls can be encountered at night. Can make combat more difficult if you haven't been building up abilities such as strength and weapon use if you don't have a strong fallback (Offensive/Defensive magic or Stealth to avoid combat).

Plus if you don't remember when you kill cheetaurs take there claws as you can sell them to the healer for Gold. You can also cut off a Troll's beard to exchange for healing potions.

However, you can always fall back to the Goblin Central Combat Training Zone area, to work on your stats.
This time while I was playing, I didn't ask the healer about components. As a result I couldn't take the beard or the claws. The next day I asked her and I was able to get them.
