I was reading the FAQ related to my current issue but it did not help me.

I operate Windows 7 as admin.

I went to my local disk drive then into the program files (x86).

I located the QFG pack folder.

I looked in the dosboxQG1EGA.conf file with the idea of modifying it so I could mount the save file directory to a different folder on C: that I had created just for the express purpose of saving my character game files.

I could not find the @echo off part in that file so I can't modify the file to solve my problem.

So as a consequence, I can't import my character to QFG 2.

I also have Dosbox version 0.73 as well if that helps any.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The mounting part is configured in dosboxQG1EGA_single.conf (if you're playing QFG1 EGA version).
E.g.
mount A "C:\QFG-Characters"
mount C "..\Quest for Glory 1 EGA"

But usually there's no need to do so, because the export/import is easy.

C: inside the game is the folder "\Quest for Glory 1 EGA"
- If you save the character to c:\glory1.sav it will be saved inside \Quest for Glory 1 EGA
- Now copy glory1.sav to "\Quest for Glory 2"
- Run Quest for Glory 2 and select "import character". Import from C: because inside QFG2 C: points to "\Quest for Glory 2"
- done

If glory1.sav isn't in "\Quest for Glory 1 EGA", search for "glory1". It's probably somewhere in
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Appdata\local\VirtualStore\Program Files\
VirtualStore is a hidden folder by default, so use the search function and include system and hidden files

Right now my current problem is that I can't find the sav file to copy and paste to the next game which would be QFG 2 for me. I've looked in both the C folders and the Virtual Store folder.

So what do I do now?

The character's save file is usually in the same directory as the savegames. They're stored in the game's folder and are named like this:
GLORYSG.DIR
GLORYSG.000
GLORYSG.001
...
As you're running the game from inside "Program Files (x86)" it could be that they are stored in the VirtualStore.
Look into C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Quest for Glory\Quest for Glory Pack\...

Or, like I mentioned above, use Window's search function and search for glory1.sav (the default name when you save the character in QFG1) or "GLORYSG.DIR" to find the savegame location. Include system and hidden files in the search, as e.g. VirtualStore is hidden by default.

Aha, I found those files. However, how do I make them show up on the import list?

If you want to import your character file (e.g. glory1.sav) into Quest for Glory 2, you have to copy it into the game's folder:
"..\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2"
When you now select "import character" in QFG2 the glory1.sav file will be there.

Perhaps I should be more specific.

I did find those files:

GLORYSG.DIR
GLORYSG.000
GLORYSG.001

but I don't see the character file itself.

I did a search for the .sav file and it's nowhere to be found.
Have you saved it like written in the "Export and Import FAQ"?

1. How do I export my character?
At the very end of the game, after the ending sequence, you will get a prompt allowing you to export your character. This is not done through the "Save Game" dialog, but a different one. (images requested) Once there, you will have to enter a directory and name for you file, with default being something like "a:\glory1.sav". Since the default configuration doesn't have an a: drive mounted, save it as "c:\glory1.sav".

JMich needs to update that. I posted the image for VGA 1 and he did all the others (Section 7. Images).

Chasakan, it's also in post #40 if the SkyDrive links are causing you issues.
