It's still a nasty glitch. Screwing up DirectX is definitely a no-go, you should report this to DisplayLink. They have to look into this, imo. Thanks for still keeping us posted on your progress Baggins. That might become very helpful for other users.
Well, ya, if these USB monitors didn't take over control of directx so directly, and could coexist with other programs, it could make the monitors a hell of a lot more useful. As it is its only useful for productivity applications (which is my main purpose for it anyways).

I was reading some of the articles from other people, and they think maybe next generation "Thunderbolt" interface will make portability for extra monitors for gaming more viable (although not necessarily affordable). Still since Thunderbolt still relies on Displayport, they have a long ways to go.

Frankly top of that list needs to allow for pre-directx 11 full screen modes.

Although if I had the cash, and could find it, I'd import a Gechic 1502i looks very cool. $400-500 (due to touch screen), and comes with HDMI, or other standard outputs. Most of the cost comes from the windows 8 ready touch screen though.

Unfortunately, not that many options out there though, for something that will fit in a backpack.

Note: as far as I can tell, these displayport monitors are more DirectX 10 or 11 compliant, than DirectX 9 or below. Still they don't really like programs that go into full screen mode.
