I don't remember exactly. But I'm not sure if the official QFG2 allowed you to 'allocate' points at the beginning of the game (on an imported character). But you can do that in later games in the series.

Just keep in mind that if you have thief skills by QFG5, you will be forced to complete certain thief quests, even as a Paladin. But you'll be barred from lockpicking options IIRC, unless you play as a thief directly. You'll also be blocked from marrying Katrina as a paladin or thief.

You may be blocked from Erana if you are a paladin with thief skills.
