just like in the topic, when i try to load saved games in this expansion, i got error and the game fails to load. I'm on windows 10 64bit.

I had the same issue, but others suggested using Yamagi Quake 2 (https://www.yamagi.org/quake2/). It's a source port that, for me, worked flawlessly. It's pretty easy to install, and the problems with the expansions are gone in it.

Or install unofficial patch 3.24
