I want to use controller toplay game.Either I can look around using +mlook(i think, might be -mlook) in console but then I can't move.Else the controller allows me to move forward back and look left right but no upwards look. How can I use controller properly where I use both sticks? It seems only left stick works.I remapped A button on controller to fire btw. Also Iremapped the little gamepad buttons to move forward back left right ,but since both left stickand gamepad are on LHS of controller this is no good.Using x360 wired controller. What can I do?
I found 1 option that works. But if any 1 has a better option please mention it forme.
I added quake2.exe to Steam as a non steam game, then i used steam controller support by choosing mouse and keyboard configuration for controller, this basically mapped WASD to left stick and mouse to right stick. It works, pretty good too. However I wanted a non steam option as well.

I know I'm resurrecting a very old thread, but this appears in search engines and no one gave an answer, so here's mine; it may help someone in the future.

My recommendation is to use the Yamagi port:
https://www.yamagi.org/quake2/ <- Only download the "Precompiled Windows binaries" link

This has full "SDL Game Controller" support, meaning it identifies almost anything you can plug to your computer as an "Xbox controller" (even Playstation ones). Use "customize gamepad" in the Options menu to assign buttons, select stick layout, set deadzones, and more, all without needing some external app running.
