The Generations Arena mod works FANTASTIC on Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit.

Generations Arena brings arenas, weapons, health, and armor from Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake to Quake III Arena.

I use it with ioQuake3 for Linux. It also has .exe installers compatible with the GOG release of Quake III Gold for Windows.

Linux and Mac users:
Grab the .zip folders off the site.
Drop the extracted folders for core Generations and the map packs into the ioQuake3 folder.
Launch ioQuake3.
Select MODS.
Select GENERATIONS ARENA.
Learn how to love Quake III in a whole new way.

Windows users:
Grab the .exe installers off the site.
Install them via the path of your Quake III folder.
Launch Quake III Arena.
Select MODS.
Select GENERATIONS ARENA.
Love it.
