I was surprised not having this episode included with the release; since it was developed by MachineGames I expected it to have a rather official status.
For those who don't know it, here is the download link, it's a free expansion pack to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Quake last year: cdn.bethsoft.com/quake/dopa.rar

So, guys from GOG, any chance to include DOPA as a bonus with the download? Yeah, it's just a click away, but many customers may forget/not know about it and it's a content hosted by the editor of the game, so it should be integral to it.

I agree. This is an official part of the release now isn't it? Published by Bethesda, who now owns ID Software. It should be included in the package. I imagine it is because of licensing issues, but if we can possibly make this happen it would be the right move.

I am new to the Quake community, and I am quite glad Yahtzee mentioned it in his Quake review or I doubt I would have known about it.

As DOPA by itself is not a commercial product (and I don't think it even has a formal copyright) it should be as easy as someone from GOG just asking MachineGames for permission.

You can't just ask someone for permission to include (in this case change) something in Quake: The Offering bundle product without creation of additional agreement between Bethesda, MachineGames and GOG (id Software former staff member Carmack might also be needed for that). It's a pain in the @$$ and costly. And let's not forget how GOG had to partially remove music from GLQuake/WinQuake, one more step and GOG may loose NIN tracks from disk image files completely.

P.S. Welcome to the hell of bureaucracy.

I didn't think the OP meant including it in the main installer bundle, but adding it as one of the "Goodies". I don't know the specifics of what deals GOG has with Bethesda so it may still be a lot of red-tape that I don't know about, but I think I remember GOG having had some leeway with what it can add to the Goodies in the past.

Also for clarification, DOPA don't change any of the Quake files themselves, but is an entirely separate set of files you just have to tell Quake to run, and Quake is already programmed to do the rest on it's own.

Sorry for confusion, i was really thinking about changing GOG installer contents for some reason. It was unjust, please accept my apologies.

Adding DOPA.zip in goodies (same way Cuss Pack for Redneck Rampage) should not involve any legal problems given than Bethesda grant its "ok".
