Hello Fellow GOG Users,
I'm running into this issue when playing Psychonauts 2, where I randomly encounter the attached error and have to close the game and reopen to play. This can happen frequently, within minutes of starting, or I can sometimes get an hour or two before it crashes again.
Looking around online I found a few suggestions for fixing the error. I have tried restarting the PC, verifying the game files via GOG Galaxy 2.0, clean installing both the game and my graphics card driver, setting the .exe to run as admin, adding it to my AV whitelist, and reducing resolution and graphics settings. I even tried using the shortcut to the .exe and the Psychonauts2-Win64-Shipping.exe in the games Binaries folder to see if any of them would run better. No dice so far. Thus far the only other solution I have seen online is to force the game to run with DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12, but this only appears to be possible in Steam. I also saw a post on this forum by user squareinc that suggested the following:
Find the game and right-click the shortcut exe (not the main one), then select Properties.
Under the Shortcut Tab, you should see the Target field with the directory path of the main exe.
Leave the path alone, but type in the dialox box at the end of the target string -force-d3d11 and click OK.
Close the Properties window.
Run the game through the shortcut.
This did not work either as the system would not allow me to select a path that didn't actually exist in the game files.
At this point I'm really not sure what my options are. I can't run the game through DirectX 11 and all other options have failed to stabilize the game. I can't imagine it would be my hardware, I have an RTX 2070 and a Ryzen 9 3900X, as well as 16 gb of RAM. Running on Windows 10, purchased through GOG Galaxy 2.0. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. If not, well...I guess I'll just keep playing in short bursts.
Thanks!
