Hello,
has anyone played through the whole game (GOG-Version) on a newer ATI-Card (like HD5770) and Win7 (if that matters for that Problem, see below)?
I have it on Steam and that Version suffers from Problems in Gloria's Theatre and Waterloo World. If this Version does not have this Problem I'll seriously consider buying it again from here.
Greetings Mirko
What, exactly, is the problem of which you speak? I think knowing that would help us to know whether it is present.
Oh, you are right, sorry, i just forgot to add a description ;-)
Well there are actually different Problems:
The worst of these Problems are huge Framerate-Issues in Gloria's Theatre when running around on the Stage, even when erverything in the graphic-settings is turned of and the resolution is changed to 640x480.
Another Problem seems to be some kind of memory leak in Waterloo World (or at least that is the Place if have experienced this). The Game starts to eat up huge amounts of memory over time, until it gets unplayable. This problem can be "fixed" by switching to the desktop using alt-tab and going back into the game (once I've seen the memory usage of the game go down to 100MB from around 1.5 GB (if I remember correctly) after doing this).
A third problem I have noticed (also in those areas) is, that some objects (for example the wooden bridges in WW) become transparent (like if they block the view) when they should not (i.e. when they are not blocking the view).
By the way, the game worked fine before I changed the Graphics Card from a NVIDA 7900GS to an ATI HD 5770, and I am not the only one having such Problems.
Thanks for your Answers.
Well, I have an ATI HD 3200, and Windows 7, and the game works almost completely fine for me. The only issue that I have had through the game has been a little slowdown from time to time on the stage in Gloria's Theater, but the framerate stays fine, and seeing as my computer has a pretty lousy processor, I don't think the video card's the problem.
That being said, my ATI card is not the same as yours, so I can't say for certain that it'll work, but I think it should.
Judging by the things i have already read about this problems, only cards from the HD4XXX and HD5XXX are affected, but anyway, thank you for your information.
Sorry for double posting, but i just accidentally found a workaround that works for me, and might therefore help others with this problems:
If there are slowdowns in the Theatre and in Waterloo World, go to Black Velvetopia once. In my case the other levels become playable again after doing that, but this needs to be repeatet every time the game is restarted. And because you can do those three Levels in any order, this is even possible in new games.
Good night,
Mirko
Actually, this also happened in my HD 3850 card (as it does in my new HD 5770). It sucks, because I have just a few 2gb memory and this memory leak drives the computer unusable for like 2 minutes after trying to close the thing. I was going to buy GOG's version, but since it suffers from the same issues as the Retail, I'm jumping off. Too bad for Double Fine.

Yep, same thing happens on my 3850 as well. I somehow managed to get past it and into the catwalks. Seems fine now.
I played this on my HD 5750 with no problems whatsoever.
I resolved my issues (playing with the Steam version) a similar way. I had a save on the camp beach that I would load whenever I started getting the slowdown in the Theatre, then when I loaded back to the Theatre all would be well for the rest of the play session.
