this game sounds great but i don't want to play online (long story but i have had enough of online interactions)

Is there a single player option?

yes my computer is connected to the internet - i just dont enjoy playing online anymore.

On the same line..is there NPC/Survivors than you can hire/gather or are you alone?

In single player you are alone, but they are actively working on NPCs to be added at a later stage from what I've read.

I hope theere would be some campaign/story mode in full release along with superb mod tools.
Because I was thinking to recreate few movie scenes in this game. :)

NPCs have been in development for a while. but they're working on getting everything right before releasing them. It will be a huge milestone toward game release once NPCs are finished.
