I have played Project Zomboid for almost a year now, having purchased it during a sales event.

When searching online, I tend to find very few open GOG servers. While also finding few that play the game in its original format. I'm not all that interested in playing with mods, or installing them, and really just wanted to experience Multiplayer Zomboid by itself, without padding from mods. Somehow, I keep finding myself logging into vanilla servers that are barely monitored, sparsely populated, and lack the betterment of what makes online play, online play, for me.

I tried joining Discords of some of the pretty popular youtubers online, but everyone seems to host the Steam version. I'm required to have that, and Steam (or some kind of Steam Key?), just to join their servers. To be honest, I am not interested in playing through Steam either. And then I'm required to have the mods just to join a server.

While I appreciate all the changes the new Beta version is bringing, this is a topic I've had on my mind for some time.

So. I was wondering. Is it achievable in the future, maybe near future, that the developers could possibly consider having some sort of integration between these versions? Making it possible for us to join from our GOG and access Steam servers?

Thank you in advance.

would be nice. something to do while you wait could be starting your own group and host a no mods multiplayer zone and put out notices on various forums to get peeps to join. what kind of multiplayer style do you like? pvp, rp, team effort?

Group wrangling isn't exactly one of my strong suits. Of course, that does sound like an excuse. I do wish I had a pretty good computer to host a server, but I honestly don't. Otherwise, I would totaly do it. There really aren't enough GOG hosts.

Aside from all that, I do like either of those things. I'm not really into pvp. But anyway, it depends. Personally, I'd like it if I could play on a server where other PCs understood that they're playing with other PCs. You can always set items to respawn, or increase the growth rate of vegetation.

Buuuut, you can't keep someone from breaking down containers, or breaking down your car to to level their mechanics, or keep from snatching all the stuff you worked to gather. While I understand this is the apocolypse, the experiences during multiplayer I've had had felt like it was every man and woman for themselves. It was always safest to go off in the woods somewhere and never engage with other people.

So teams? Yes. But also just, I dunno, consideration for the server.

sounds like you would like a more rp adventure where you are part of a group. I wouldnt mind playing like that, im not into the pvp stuff, im more a survivor builder. are you ok with inventory bag mod?
Hello!
Quick question as a PZ-wannabe: can we or can we not play with friends if some of us own it on GOG and others on Steam (or even elsewhere if that exists) ?
That would help me a lot, thanks! :)

Steam players will have to run the game with the -nosteam parameter.

To to that, they Right click Project Zomboid in their Steam library, hit Properties and then hit the Launch options button. Then they have to enter "-nosteam" without the quotes and run the game.
Nice, thanks a lot! I wanted to play with friends on Steam (I don't know if they use mods yet)
I really appreciate your efforts toward GOG, I wish more developers were like you!
Cheers :)

Hello! Just a question - is it possible that you provide Steam key to every GOG purchase? Automatic or manually, this will solve few problems. Gog customers then can feed the key in their steam account, steam registration and client are free, so no problem even if Zomboid is first game. Since Zomboid is not encrypted, redownloading is not necessary, but I assume steam version differs slightly so you might need to change the code to detect if application is run without steam libraries or with them present. This gives ability for gog users, including linux-only users like me to:
- join steam servers.
- help you betatest IWBUMS, even linux version.

Non-steam GOG version can then be used for GOG-only users as well as if something happens to steam.
You can also create this option as "an addon", to ask for extra price for GOG, in case Steam version costs more.

Greetings.

Dear Developers! Right now I see that 41.13 was released for Linux, but Windows and Mac are currently on 40.43.
Does this mean that you decided to release IWBUMS for Linux via normal channel? This is great, but there is one tiny problem - Galaxy isn't available for Linux, hence its makes not possible to get Stable release for platform.

Looks like you don't understand!
Point 1: Linux has no GOG client. This means, there is no way to choose the version, as only ONE version is available.

Point 2: 41.13 is according to changelog - IWBUMS (unstable).

Point 3: = Point 1 + Point 2 : Linux currently has only unstable available.

While I totally support that IWBUMS arrived to Linux, the way its currently done means stable is no longer available for Linux on GOG. See my comment above to developer how to make both versions available.

To be honest, I glanced through the post and made a quick reply without adressing all the points.

If I didn't have the previous stable version installer, I would be in the same situation.

Sorry for the non-answer.
