Hi guys, big fan of the game, as the title says how do you get perk points to purchase perks such as melee master or soul collecter? Do you have to get 5 stat points which will then turn into a perk point or do you have to spend 5 perk points?

Every 5 levels gained, you get a perk point. They're separate from stat points, it's just a bit vaguely written. :v

Just to make sure, so if you level up 5 times you get a perk point?

That's correct.
