My Windows copy of Timeshock refuses to work properly and only runs as a background process and not an application. I do not know how to force it to run in the foreground and have no choice but to end the task.

This is a recurring problem in Windows 10 that seems to happen with very certain older games and I am not impressed with this shitty OS. It's even worse than 8 because at least 8 and 8.1 let me play more of these games.

EDIT: Is there any way to make the windows game run in the foreground? I really need help with this and I need to do it for other games as well like Prince of Persia 3D.

I have the exact same problem. I'm also on Windows 10. I''m stuck with the DOS version of the game because the Windows version just runs in the background while nothing happens on screen.
The Windows version works in Win7 x64 for me.

Have you tried different compatibility modes?

Yes, I've tried that. I tried running it as an admin as well. Doesn't do anything.

I saw in another thread that removing "winmm.dll" from the game's directory will make the game run in the foreground, but it's very buggy and there's no music. I haven't been able to find any other solutions. It seems to be a Windows 10 issue that doesn't happen on Win 7 or 8.

The DOS version, however, plays just fine, so I guess I'll play that for now.

Just a quick heads up.The solution provided above, actually works really well on Windows 10.Just remove winmm.dll from the game folder when you want to play the windows version of the game, and return it after you're done, and put the compatibility settings to XP(Service Pack 3).Good luck.Cheers

Edit: The only downside to this metod is the missing ingame music, which is a real bummer, but that's the trade-off ;).I update this post if i manage to get the music going.Cheers

Guys and girls, I think that I have a solution!
The problem resides in WINMM.DLL not being compatible with Windows 10.

I have found a WINMM.DLL that IS compatible.
However, It is kinda buggy. The music plays, but seems to restart constantly.
The workaround to this issue seems to be to set "Music Restart" to "Slow" in "Audio configuration".
It will still loop occasionally, but not as much as before.

Since I was not able to post a link to the file:
Just Google: "fixed_winmm_win10" and you will find the file.

Replace and Enjoy Pro Pinball - Timeshock! IN WINDOWS WITH MUSIC!

If anyone has a solution to the looping music, please post it here!

Best Regards

The options music also plays in the intro where there should only be sound effects until the Game Over screen.
The music restart set to slow solution also behaves the same for me, the restarting seems to take place whenever the ball isn't moving around.

That doesn't help. Where do we look? Googling that doesn't show us the place you found it.

EDIT: Never mind: i forgot I already had it. However, there is still a massive music bug. Can you find a solution to that?
