I have no idea why this game is rated that high. First of all, the production value is quite high, good voice overs, good music, nice art style. Nothing to complain here.
But that's about it. The gameplay mechanism is just boring. The whole game is one big sequence of loosely related puzzle rooms. There is almost always one and only one way to solve a puzzle. If the camera wasn't that bad positioned quite often, it would almost always be clear of what to do next, where to jump next etc.
The whole story - let's just say you definitely don't play this game because of the story.
The fighting system is one more weak point. There is a maximum of four concurrent enemies. The fights consist of very exciting right clicking and left clicking (block and attack). Oh, and I almost forgot about the clever tactics involved: there are some enemies which you cannot jump over (which is otherwise the easiest way to kill them)! Boring? Yep... If you had not your stupid female companion nearly all fights would be a piece of cake (oh, wait again: I forgot about the stupid camera - you need to see all of the enemies around you in order to block their attacks or to jump away. But not that seldom the view to some of them is just blocked). In the really big fights you will probably throw your mouse around your room because your companion died once more unbelievably stupidly.
Other annoying points:
- you cannot cancel all of the short cut scenes or animations (overview of a room, the prince putting away his sword after a fight, the prince jumping into a saving point etc.)
- the bats - really, what is the point of these bats? Sometimes, when you climb around you are attacked by bats. And they are such a big challenge! Wait until they are around you, strike, wait, strike, wait, strike - do this until only three bats are left.
Conclusion: Two stars to get the average rating of this game right :P
The game is not bad! You can have fun with it if you are okay with simplistic gameplay and if you like to jump around an interesting looking environment..
