Before first contach with game I thought it will be another borring strategy but I was wrong...
We can choose one of three powers - Romans, Egyptians or Barbarians (Galls). Main focus in games is in, what was best in thoose times, great battles. There isn't any resources gathering, bulding a base etc. Only tactics and military combat. Most important is strategic planning; before each mission you are briefed about your objectives and have under control some number of soldiers. They are grouped in legions already. Controling your troops is easy because you have many formations and commands to choose from and troops usually are doing their best to do given orders. Thanks to all this you can plan moves, strategies, assaults more easilly without getting sticked in dumb micromanagament.
Game isn't too old (released in 2003) so 3D graphic stil looks comparatively good. Environment is good modeled and detailed, untis are little worse but 3D games are always getting older faster than old style 2D ones, it's why we like 2D, at least I do :).
Sounds and voice actings fits well in game, it's not disturbing but also not too memorable but I like it that way. Sounds of battle are made good too.
Roman empire times were used as background of so many games I can't count them all but Praetorians is defintely one of better ones. If you like this ancient times spend thoose few bucks. You won't regret it!
