I upgraded Postal Classic to new gog 2.1 version and it no longer runs in Linux wine:

err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program\Postal\Postal Plus.exe" failed, status c0000135

I am suspecting the exe file is either broken or only made for Vista and above, not for Windows XP. I hate to have gog no long er supporting Windows XP if that is the case, since I rely exclusively on that to run gog.com games in Linux (I don't have Windows, and I already spent quite a lot on gog.com games!)

I replaced with the old gog 2.0 version of the exe file and it ran fine.

Is it okay to do this? Is the update only with the data files, or would I encounter problems later in the game?

BTW, just to make sure it's not the installation that is broken, here is the details on the exe file if someone can verify:
old 2.0: Postal Classic.exe size=1900544 md5sum=51f718f7aace3138405ac682498b05b1
new 2.1: Postal Classic.exe size=999424 md5sum=29e009bb6773f6a27830ac711dfc1154

Ok, so I found it was a user error: mistakenly removed some files while upgrading. Now it is working perfectly.

Anyway, the new version has some feature I don't like in the save game:

The old version opened a file dialog, so I could save a game anywhere in the Linux file system by navigating the directories.

Now, the new version acts like a console game: I can only save in the pre-defined slots.

I hope this can be reverted back. Given that the exe file has reduced to half in size, I think a lot of features were removed in the new version. I'll probably use the old version of exe until it breaks.
