Raised this issue in another thread, but creating a new thread to see if that will generate more ideas for fixes.

In Win 7, I'm unable to launch this game. (XP is fine, so is Vista, but I'd like to use my Win7 machine). gogwrap launches, pr2 launches.... then nothing happens. I've set compatability to xp (sp2/3) 98/ME, etc. to no effect. Same with running as admin, disabling UAC, rolling back/updating graphic drivers, running from shortcut and directly from PR2 exe file...

System is Win7 64 (w/ latest updates)
ATI Radeon HD 5770 (now w/ latest drivers, but have tried 12.1 and 12.3)

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
same here!

and I'm running Windows 8... It just goes into background processes and that's all.
Same here. I'm also using Win 8...
GOG is in deep silence, I thing they might working on that problem.
Because of it I'm waiting and not buying it yet!

Salutes!

have you tried using windowed mode instead - through the PR2 config programme. I have an Nvidia GTX 570 under Windows 8 and it works

Hi,

I have Windows 7, x64 and an AMD 6800 series graphics card. If I upgrade to the latest drivers Port Royale 2 just goes into the background (think it is PR2.exe).

Since I like the game, I stick with version 12.3 as the program launches and plays without flaws in then.
(or 2D driver version 8.01.01.1235, 3D version 7.14.10.0894, OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11566 if those make more sense.)

Maybe I will upgrade if I ever get tired of PR2 ;)

Sadly i have the same problem. I also have an ATI Radeon HD 5770. Is there any hope there will be a fix? I just bought pr2 after i had the same problem with the Ascaron Entertainment Version and read it would work with the one from GOG without the copy protection.
Same problem here. 2 Radeon 5850s in crossfire. Win7 64.

I used to play PR2 all the time on this computer, but I tried to fire it up and... exactly as above.

Have you all tried installing it outside of the \Program Files\ folder - i.e. to something like C:\GOG games\Port Royale 2?

It's a generally recommended troubleshooting step for running older games in Windows 7; as the Program Files folder is locked down and older games, not expecting this, can struggle.
Yeah none of these suggestions work.... i will keep trying but i cant seem to find a silver bullet
Im having the same problem. Is there any other new ideas.
I have Windows 7 32bit and it doesnt run either, its running but doesnt load the game
When trying to run the game from the start menu shortcut, the PR2 process would show up but not the actual game. I installed outside of Program Files (having win7 x64), with up-to-date drivers (AMD Radeon HD 6450). etc. On advice from another post in this forum, I set PR2.exe to win98/ME compatibility and, even though it already had run as administrator checked, I ran it as administrator manually for good measure. It has launched fine since then.
I had this same problem on Win7 with an AMD video card (HD7870), and setting the Win98/ME compatibility flag worked for me as well. Thanks for the tip!

When the game started, the graphics were a bit messed up, especially the water. This was fixed by running the "PR2Config.exe" file in the game's install directory (or through Start->All Programs->GOG.com->Port Royale 2->Settings) and putting a checkmark in "Compatibility mode for reflections".
Using Win 95 compatibility mode worked for me (Windows 7).
