Just out of curiosity:
What is the smallest ship type you have ever managed to capture a galleon with? It's not that hard with a barque, even if you're dealing with an enemy convoy 10 ships strong - provided you have enough chain- / grapeshot on board (about 2000 of each and you're on the safe side). Heck, maybe next time I'll try to take liners with a barque...
Capturing galleons with just a brig is much more challenging, as it goes 2 whole knots slower than a galleon and with just 16 guns, it's tough to blow their sails to shreds before they catch up and board you. Not to mention I've never come upon a single galleon at sea - they seem to always travel in convoys, so you have the other ships to worry about as well - about the other galleons if you're really unlucky or if you pissed some country off so bad they send a military convoy after you.
So, has anyone ever managed to capture a galleon with a sloop or pinnace? And has anyone defeated a military convoy of at least 3 galleons using a sloop or pinnace?
