Just wondering what people (Especially first time players) think of the game now that they got to play it for awhile?
I really like the game and I really like you can play in small bursts and still have a lot of fun.
I'm still going through the tutorial scenarios because it's been a long time since I played it. I'm still enjoying it, and hoping to ease into a free play game before too long.
I never played this before (never even heard of it before), but so many people said great things about it that I thought I'd give it a go.
I only got about halfway through the tutorial missions before I quit and uninstalled. I'm sure many people think this is a wonderful game, but I just found it incredibly boring. Maybe I should have tried free play, I don't know. But being forced to sail around, trading in small portions for hours, to meet the next financial requirement, so I could move on and hopefully get to do something interesting, really killed the game for me.
it was totally new to me too, but it looked like a game I'd enjoy, so I took the plunge. I've been working slowly through the scenarios, and have been finding it to be a REALLY enjoyable game so far!

Excellent! It is a very good game but takes a bit of learning to get the hang of it for sure.
The space-bar is your friend during the tutorials. It changes the game speed to 100x. During the tutorials, the speed is usually set to .1x, so ships take forever to sail to the next port. So if you really have nothing to do while your ship is sailing and you're waiting for a building to finish, hold down the space bar.
I really hate not being able to play it windowed. In games like these that "mill away the hours", it's very necessary for me to alt-tab every now and then in order to maintain interest. It gets a bit tedious when it's run full-screen(at a rather low resolution, to boot!).
But the game itself is grand. :)

Don't forget to check around in town and pick up missions. There's much more to the game than just shipping and selling goods. I also thoroughly enjoy building up my own industries and housing developments.

Amen.
Yeah, PR2 is a great game, right up there with the very best strategy/trading games ever made. But it's a German game, and Germans have much more patience for micromanagement and the slow grind than Americans do.
If you're looking for a quick action fix, you should probably look elsewhere.
Only got around to installing it a few days ago and I've been through all the tutorials and the only thing that annoys me the most is the ship battles. Especially the mission where you have to hunt down military convoys, 5 ships vs 1?!!?!?!?! And 3 of them are Ships of the Line with 50 cannons? I like the trading and building up my business but I have a feeling the lack of decent combat is going to put me off this in the long run, given that you'll need to attack towns (which again is like 5 cannon towers vs 1 ship) and other military ships before you can get your own land
