Today there was an update for Populous The Beginning and ever since I can't get it to run anymore!

D3D version DOES NOT RUN AT ALL, it shows a little black window briefly and then crashes.

popTB.exe technically runs but the screen is all crazy with the UI being centered and the rest of the display up and to the left somewhat.

it worked fine before the update, fullscreen, all the works. didn't even stutter!

is there a way to go back to before this useless update please? i can only download the installer for the now broken version, is there one before the july 2021 update?

Apparently now when you have "desktop resolution" selected into the wrapper the screen does not scale correctly to fill the screen even if it is selected in the wrapper options and you will see the screen like a stamp in the center of your screen.

This is, the option "fill the screen" in scale options under the wrapper configrator, apparently does not work correctly.

The only workaround is to run the game with the wrapper option "Set by application (default)" That way the game runs scaled filling your screen, but you are limited to the two original vanilla resolutions only.

both D3D and regular versions of this game remain unplayable - the D3D version won't even launch! it starts, shows a little black box, and then stops by itself instead of launching the game

the regular version launches but there is a visual mismatch which hinders the game from being played decently

Can you by any provisional chance, tell us what your setup is like? Do you have Data Execution protection on or off? Which OS are you using?

How about now?
There was a wrapper downgrade or something and they just updated the game again to revert that problem. Maybe it works now.

Now with desktop resolution selected the game scales correctly, I feel the performance a bit worse but probably it is placebo or just because previously I used "application decided" anyway I believe that in this game desktop resolution only should be very useful for compatibility reasons in some cases

win10, 980. i don't think data execution prevention can be an issue because it worked fine before

also the 'rollback' didn't do much, the issue with the basic version is exactly the same and the D3D version now goes fullscreen black for two seconds and then bugs out and crashes to desktop as well. which is worse because it gave me hope it would be fixed, dammit!

if only i could access earlier versions...

Works fine for me, but I use the 1.03 patch.

is there a way to get old version of the game? how please?
