So that's different to the DEP message you get? I wonder if you have 2 bugs. You could check your event log (I think windows 7 will still find it if you type eventvwr into your 'run' textbox).

It's not a bug, it's a feature :-P
Seriously though the idea is that GOGSetup either starts in setup mode (on the first launch, or if started through Setup menu start shortcut), or just starts the game on every subsequent run, so you don't have to click through the launcher every time.

This actually looks like the message from the launcher that fixes corrupted colors on Windows 7. It still means that the game executable crashed, but are you sure you launched game exe (PoTB.exe/D3DPopTB.exe) directly as wpegg said?

Also check if "run as Administrator" is set on compatibility tab for those two execs, not just GOGSetup.

And one more thing - if the game crashes, please write if that happens on software mode, hardware mode or both.

In my (Win 7 64 bit) case, both POPTB.exe and D3DPopTB.exe are checked "run as administrator." The problem appears the same way in hardware and software modes. If I run POPTB.exe or D3DPopTB.exe directly then the cursor marks time for a few moments and then nothing happens. If I run from the desktop Icon or run GOGsetup.exe directly I get a message saying "Missing or incomplete Registry information. Use C:POP3.CD as default hard drive path?" and then after answering yes to that I get the error window mentioned above that just says "Program crashed".

That's exactly my issue as well.

what happens if you answer "No" to that?

I suspected as much. Guess it's up to support to work out what that registry info that's missing is.

Actually the game has three registry keys that point to the install directory.

Try reinstalling the game, running the installer as administrator.

I have the same problem and installed it as admin - i even turned UAC off and it still crashes upon trying to launch.

Found out the problem. Atiumdag.dll is outdated in this install. Replaced it with a newer version and now the game runs fine! Thank you BloodCloak from this thread.

[EDIT] This problem may only affect those with radeon cards. Hopefully GoG repackages the game with a newer atiumdag.dll

From what I see this happens if I remove the game registry key. Could you check if you have it?
It should be in HKLM\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Populous: The Beginning (or HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Populous: The Beginning on 64-bit systems)

OK, there could be two separate issues:
-"Missing or incomplete registry information" - for this reinstalling as admin should help, if not - check the game registry entries
-Problem on ATI cards - game is incompatible with recent drivers on most ATI cards, so an older driver is included. You can try renaming or removing atiumdag.dll in the install directory if that helps.

I had the same problem as everyone else - 'game has crashed' on boot. Renamed the .dll file as suggested and ran popTB.exe, and the game works now! Thanks!

Ive gotta stop buying games from gog.com, the last 2 games dungeon keeper 2 and this refuse to load, they just crash. I bought them because they state they are compatible with curret OS's but they dont seem to have anythign special that makes them more compatible than the original versions which i already own, and no longer work.

DK2, you have a fair point.

This game appears to have some teething issues, but people are getting supported, and they are getting their issues resolved. Is your version still not working despite the workarounds posted?
