GoG version is set to 20000 cycles, that is too fast for the game when playing a map.

Reducing the cycles (hold down control and press F11 key) to around 5000 seemed better, but I wondered what other people have set their cycles rate to? Assuming this isn't specific to my dual core CPU.

I was having the same issue (Core i7 here) and tried this and it works great! I play with a cycle of 10,000 though. 5,000 was sluggish and giving me some pretty bad input delays. But hey, it's playable now!

The default speed cycles work fine when its in "fullscreen" mode (F4 or F5?) as seen on the product page screen shots. It is too fast when its got the default view. Depends how you want to play the game really...

It's way too fast for me. I don't know how many cycles I have (because they are not show in full screen), but it's too much.
Just checked it. 7000 cycles is about right for me.
Hi
Just downladed Populous II but all I get is the long introduction only and no game. If I press any key the intro quits and I go back to my desktop. Any ideas? I havewindows 7 on an i7 processor.

Thanks
Joe

I needed to allow write access to the game directory. If you are using Windows 7, I expect you have UAC turned on and then you may need even more changes. I would recommend to install the game to a directory outside of Program Files, somewhere where write access is enabled - e.g. Documents or Desktop.

Have you tried running it as an administrator? (Right Click ---> Run as Administrator)
My "problem" is that it's runnning too slowly by default so I always have to increase the cycles.

But note that according to the manual you can even change the speed ingame by pressing '+' and '-' (apparently Bullfrog already thought of this problem in the early 90's :B).
There are two game screens in pop 2. Full screen and the screen with the colloseum. The full screen runs at a normal rate, but the smaller screen will be to fast. I have not found a way to keep the two at the same rate.

Note I am not talking about windowed mode verse full screen.

Oh, right. The reason why I'm one of the few people for whom the game is running too slowly by default may be the fact that I'm one of the few guys who actually use the "fullscreen" mode. :B

No, I run it in fullscreen, too. But I have no speed problems, it actually runs too fast if I do not reduce the CPU cycles.
Another way is simply to reduce the game speed within the game itself (options menue)
worked fine with me
