Hi,

Now that the gogsetup.exe has been removed is there a way to increase the resolution of the game to a higher version. I only have the option of 600 and 800dpi?

Initially when I first installed the game and clicked launch from the GOG installer I was able to find a 1280 resolution but this then caused the game to crash and subsequently I have not been able to play the game in any other resolution.

Note: I have had other problems with my copy whereby the short-cuts the installer created were not working. I can only launch the game using the D3DPopTB.exe files in the program directory. I have had to create new short cuts and a ".bat" files to run the game with explorer closed to remove graphic errors in the start screen and I also have set the game to run in Windows XP compatibility mode. (All of these tricks garnered from the helpful topics here!!)

If anyone knows a way to fix my last issue with the resolution that would be great!

Try the Populous Resolution Changer from here:
http://www.popre.net/downloads.php

Copy the file into the game's folder and run it to set a new resolution.
It works for me at 1280x800x32. The new resolution only affects the actual game not the menus.

You need to pass the /allres flag if you're making a new shortcut and want all the resolutions to show up in game.

You can also get the colors to work without closing explorer if you run the Populous matchmaker from http://popre.net as admin. The first time it runs it installs a registry fix that will make the colors correct when you press scroll lock. DXWnd is also a good solution.
I know this is a proper necro, but I just started re-playing Populous 3 and a lot of people write you can't set the resolution higher than 1280x800, otherwise the game crashes.

In "DirectX Settings" additional executable ("dxcfg.exe" in your game folder) set "Presentation" to "Windowed" and "Display Mode" to the highest 4:3 resolution your monitor supports.

Example: my laptop's screen is 1920x1080, so the highest 4:3 resolution it would "fit" is 1400x1050.

Works like a charm
