The forums are confusing because there's a Police Quest subforum but also a SWAT subforum so I guess I'm making two posts.
I'm trying to play SWAT 2 but it just flat out will not work.
The game launches fine and when I attempt to start a new campaign it lets me select my side, even successfully plays the intro movie, and gives me the interface for selecting officers/terrorists and equipping them. But when I go to start the scenario, I assign teams, click "Play Scenario," and hit OK to start it the game just crashes. There are no error messages, and there's nothing to indicate what the problem is. I also tried starting an empty multiplayer game with just myself to see if it would work and it also crashes. It seems like the game will run the menu just fine but the second it tries to get in-game it just crashes.
In googling and searching the GoG forums there seem to be a handful of suggested solutions but I've attempted all of them and nothing works, the game still crashes as soon as I attempt to start a scenario.
1) Remove the movies -- Doesn't work. The game is capable of playing without the movies, just skipping them, but it still crashes.
2) Download new versions of the movies in newer codecs -- Doesn't work.
3) Use a new SWAT2.EXE that GoG itself has provided -- Doesn't work, no difference in the game behavior whatsoever.
4) Grab a new D3D dll and throw that in the folder -- Doesn't work, no difference in the game behavior whatsoever.
5) Compatibility mode for Win 95/98/XP -- Doesn't work.
What's weird is that I see multiple people in the forums stating that they're having crashes on later missions, or simply can't get the multiplayer working, meaning that in some way the game CAN be made to function and play, but none of the suggested solutions work, and there are very few other items about the game either.
Anyone know of anything or better yet can some GoG support actually help and look into this matter?
