I'm stuck at the jail in Police Quest I. I handcuffed an offender (intoxicated driving) and brought him to the jail, where I entered the correct penal code and told him to walk to the center of the room. Whenever I try to uncuff him at this point, the player character automatically turns around and is assaulted by the offender. There's no window of opportunity to do anything after uncuffing him. I tried having my baton and pistol ready, but it doesn't seem to make a difference - does anyone know whether I'm missing out on a specific step of procedure?

Before you enter the jail, you have to put your gun into the boxes outside. This game is all about procedure ...
Thanks! Guess that means I'll have to start over...
Yikes! In sierra games, learn to save often, and always in a new save file. They are pretty common with things like this. I was going to ask why you had to start over, why not just load the save you made before entering the building... Then I realized.

This kind of treatment was pretty accepted for adventure games back then.

Wow, appox. one year later, this happens to me. GREAT! lol

I had saved three different files:
1) After entering the jail
2) After entering the penal codes
3) After telling the drunk driver to go to the center of the room

Lesson learned: DON'T save iteratively after EVERY single action. Probably better to save iteratively after going into DIFFERENT LOCATIONS.
