Every time I try to start a new career on SWAT 2, I get the error message MEM_RESIZE_FAILED. I found a possible fix on the Blade of Darkness thread, but I can't get that to work. Please help, I'd love to play this game again

Have you already tried running the game in compatibility mode for Win XP?

In Blade of Darkness the error seems to be connected to video replay, specially the mpg intro video, so they just renamed the file/folder, so that the game skips it when starting.
Does the message also come from "SmartHeap Library"?
What Windows version are you using?

OK I should say at this point I'm pretty rubbish with computers, so I have no idea what SmartHeap Library is, sorry. I can tell you that I'm using Windows 8.1
I've just checked the webpage on gog.com and it does say that the Police Quest SWAT 1 & 1 bundle is compatible with Windows 8. Thanks for offering to help.

In the "Blade of Darkness" thread they state that the error message is thrown by one of the game's software components called SmartHeap Library. It shows in the window displaying the error. Just because the error message is the same here, doesn't mean it's thrown by the same application, that's why I asked. Check the title of the error window.

Anyway, I'd just try Compatibility Mode, no matter where the error comes from, especially with Win 8.1
Right-click the game's shortcut and select Properties and then go to the Compatibility tab. There you can set the Compatibility Mode for Windows XP (you can also try Win 7 if it doesn't work). Apply the changes and start the game with this shortcut.

Sorry for the late reply, I had a few internet issues yesterday. I've tried running it in compatibility mode for all versions of Windows, and I always get the same error. I can now also tell you that the error is from the SmartHeap Library
I have the same issue, not solutions?
I also have the same issue, renaming the movies folder helps but no movies load, very disappointing.

Also, once in the game the team members move so slowly that I thought the game had frozen multiple times.

How do I go about getting a refund? Because this product doesn't work!

Same issue here, i've tried different compatibility modes but no luck. Do you think GoG will get around to fixing this through a patch?

I would love the opportunity to play this gem once again.

The game is unplayable on ANY operating system except XP and lower! The idiots who are selling it are of no help as they meaning (GOG) are choosing to offer no help what so ever! I would demand my money back and if they refuse, threaten to sue them!

Yes, there is a solution now, you can download the replacement movies, they are in the popular XVID codec.

Download the replacement movies from The Mod Database:
