Playing Police Quest 4 after such a long time, I'm finding that I get stuck on my way to the Short Stop Bar

I'm supposed to go to Katherine's house who is there, however every time I go, it appears no one is home. I've read the memo about the funeral, I've gone to the practice range to shoot, can't think of anything else I can do. Everything is closed (SID and Property), what am I missing? Any help is appreciated!
