Good news everyone(beat you did that in farnsworth's voice didn't you?)
GOG had updated a few of the sierra bundles and games to the new 2.0 installers and Police Quest got a little something extra. That's right the original AGI engined Police Quest 1 has been added to the bundle so far this seems to be the only missing version that has been added as Space Quest 1-3 still does not have the VGA remake, not sure about KQ though as I don't have it.

Good, maybe some of our push helped. Doesn't loolk like they updated the game page for the bundle though to show that it has the original. But hopefully they do that soon.

I'll go check the KQ bundles.

Edit: Not updated with KQ1SCI in the first pack, unfortunately.

That's awesome, a bit strange that I didn't get a "game updated" notification though. Anyway, 1 down, 2 more to go!

Well perhaps more than a couple more to go;

LSL6 HD, because it is the ultimate version, it looks the best.

KQ1SCI

SQ1VGA

Ya, its a longshot but the rare KQ4AGI would be nice, since it has some interesting differences in gameplay than the EGA version. Many game players and collectors that would like to have a legal copy of that version.

These are even more of a longshot;

It might be nice for the hearing impaired to have a copy of the floppy version of KQ5. Puzzles are essentialy the same (with exception of the copy-protection puzzles), but it does have an almost completely different script, and a few cutscene/character portrait differences. It's a nice alternative for those who hate the 'voice overs'. So think of the floppy as a subtitles mode (like KQ6's ability to switch between voice and text).

Some would like floppy KQ6, for its extended and different introduction cutscene. Otherwise other than menu colors its basically the same.

SQ4 floppy, some puzzle differences here and there, and a very different Galaxy Gallaria stores, some different jokes and script differences between the two versions. There are some other differences like the colors of the Monochrome Boy's bikes. But eh mostly the same. But still its a great version for collectors, wanting near-different versions.

there was also the EGA version of KQ5 but that one was also really rare
The EGA version of KQ5 is just the same version as the standard floppy KQ5, with the colors reduced. It's still a SCI game, based on essentially the same version as the VGA, with a different driver included.

Most of the early SCI games either came with both the VGA and the EGA drivers in the same box, or they split the drivers into the EGA and the VGA versions in separate boxes.

So there is largely no reason to have the EGA version over the VGA versions, as the VGA version simply uses better graphics. But the general gameplay is exactly the same.

Now KQ6 it is kinda fun to switch to the other drivers, because you get to see different introduction cutscenes, in EGA for example KQ6's introduction is more descriptive and has a few extra lines of dialogue.

In SQ4 the jokes change when you encounter the monochrome brothers.

I wouldn't put EGA/VGA versions of KQ5 for example the same category as KQ4 AGI and KQ4 SCI, as those games are using completely different engines that function differently. Each has its own unique animation/sprites, artwork, and dialogue text. Few puzzles and easter egg differences tied to the fact that its a different engine.

Now if GOG could include the Apple II versions of the AGI games, that would be rather cool 'bonus'. As most of them had original or improved music (compared to the Tandy or IBM versions), with much better instrumentation. Plus cool realistic sound effects! They work great in the SCUMMVM. Although I don't think SCUMMVM is able to emulate the Apple II GS color palette yet.

SQ2 for Apple II is an audio lovers experience really.

The KQ2 version is alot of fun, as it has a slightly extended soundtrack, a few more musical cues. It's great to hear Dracula scream when you kill him!

Note, while less of a big change. The floppy version of Gabriel Knight 1, is comparably interesting in that it uses lowres VGA for all the closeup images and onscreen sprites. The CD-Rom upgrades the graphics to include hires closeup photos when communicating/interrogating with the various characters in the game, as well hires inventory items and other sprites. The higher res sprites as they are seen in teh game world stand out more as they are at a higher resolution than the surrounding background art. Otherwise both versions play exactly the same.

A similar situation occurs with PQ4: Open Season, in that floppy version has a slightly different menu system, uses VGA for all the ingame images. Whereas the CD-Rom added in hires bits, into the scenery, and inventory. Beyond that I discovered some description differences in the text, when I looked through the scripts.

This is good news! I am crossing my fingers the missing remakes will make their way here too.

I'm off to insta-buy that pack!
If anyone is interested, I added the KQ4 AGI, KQ5 VGA floppy, SQ4 floppy, and KQ6 floppy (ya there are collectors who would like to get ahold of it) to the 'Wishlists' if anyone else wants to 'vote'.

There is also a listing for the LSL6 Hires too.

I also put up a generic request for "Sierra Quest Games" Apple II ported games running on ScummVM (they run brilliantly), to have access to the improved sound and music.

You have to wonder what the hold up is with at least SQ 1 VGA and KQ 1 SCI, is it because Activision is that retarded that they are dragging their heels with allowing GOG to include those two versions, is it that Activision is unsure they own the rights to them or is it that GOG is having trouble obtaining those versions(honestly I'm sure someone has a retail copy of those two they could give them)?

The others(KQ4 AGI, KQ5 Floppy, SQ4 Floppy, and KQ6 floppy) I won't hold my breath on since most of those are either too rare or most of the copies of them are probably very deteriorated and/or cost a fair amount of money that it really won't be worth it to GOG to acquire them. Since according to a interview TET did alot of the versions of games we see are either obtained through TET's personal stash or are purchased through sites like Ebay and Amazon since alot of the rights to these games have changed hands so many times that the people who own the rights don't have copies of the actual games.
I won't hold my breath on them, but hey I can still 'wish'.
I think there's a patch out there that adds the assets from the floppy version of SQ4 into the CD version. I tried it once, but it broke the already unstable voice acting.

As for the remakes of KQ1 and SQ1... I don't think those are important... at least, not as important as getting PQ1EGA. You can probably find one of the Vivendi collections for 10 bucks on eBay, but the other collections would be much more expensive.

Well good for you, while you may not care or feel it's as important alot of us feel differently and rightfully so given now that all the Sierra collections but the KQ and SQ collections here have their original versions and official remakes, Police Quest 1 it's EGA/AGI version and VGA versions, Larry has Larry 1 EGA/AGI version and VGA, Quest for Glory has the EGA and VGA versions of 1.The only ones lacking are Space Quest and King's Quest so why should they be left out? and honestly if I wanted to go buy the silly Vivendi packs I would of but I don't I bought them here.
I personally don't have a reason to care. I own like 2-3 collections of many of the series already, LOL. Digital and otherwise.

However, I care more for the fans having access to them. GOG maybe the best and cheapest chance to offer people a way to get as complete a collection as possible.

Ya, there are a few old collection bonuses that would be nice, if they were added back in.

King's Questions, or some of the artwork programs/videos. The Crazy Nick's mini games.

I also would like certain hard to find versions have a release because of their rarity, to have valid versions of them in my collection, to have access to the alternative puzzles/assets that make them worth playing.

I'm curious if there have been any other games updated lately with "silent" updates (no "Updated" notice on the account tab). I didn't catch this one and probably never would have!
