And if so, can you mute the voices? Sierra employed the worst voice actors!
It is indeed the CDROM version. The options allow one to select between text and speech, so I'm assuming that's the same as muting voices.

I don't agree. It's true that Sierra was one of the first companies that experimented with speech and therefore certain first attempts went a little ... overboard.
But later games were excellent cast and directed. Just think about Gabriel Knight 1 or King's Quest 6.

But in general, Sierra did actually quite a good job when it came to voices or actors.
It's always easy to bash a fifteen year old game for not sounding like a Hollywood blockbuster.

Also, I think the PQ4 voices are quite good. For a game that age.
Is it possible to have both text AND speech activated, or do you have to go with one or the other?
Hm. No, I think it's not possible, if I remember correctly.

But the ScummVM-guys are working on that. Try some recent SVN build of ScummVM, perhaps this works for PQ4 already.
Speech and text would be really nice - the speech is too fast and the quality to low, so i dont understand all as not native english speaker.. but only text is to poor..

and with pq the damn thing is, i need to understand it all..

i hope the scumm guys may feature this :)

if someone hears about it, could he post it in this thread? :) thankies!

Oh yeah, the Gabirel Knight series has fantastic acting and so do other Sierra games. I shouldn't have made such an overbearing statement. The first CDROM games were pretty atrocious, though.
