I'm talking to the first trainer. I see I have "Unused slots" as a Fighter. I also see that I can't train beyond Proficient, at this point (or so it seems) aka 2 stars per weapon.

I am assuming that I can fill all 4 slots with different weapons, but asking him to train a new weapon type. What I'm worried about is that "slots" and "points" might be synonymous, and maybe I should focus on a single weapon, maxing it out? In other words, am I missing out on a higher proficiency with a single weapon, if I fill those slots with multiple weapon types?

PS: I'm playing the original version, with all the old patches and add-ons, not EE.

The first trainer Porphiron, can teach you only up to 2 points per each weapon type. Later on, in Curst you will find a guard that can train you further than that. Dak'kon and Vhailor might help you as well.

I don't recall wasting any proficiency points and there's only a few weapon types that The Nameless One can use anyway: axes, hammers, maces, daggers and fist weapons if I recall correctly. I think I used 3 of those in a given playthrough. So, I don't think you'll be wasting points if you just focus on those that you like.
